About Denturism

Denturists are dental health professionals who specialize in the field of removable oral prosthesis (dentures). The Denturist Technology Program prepares denturists with the theoretical, technical and clinical experiences required to assess, design, fabricate and insert any kind of removable prosthesis. Effective communication with patients regarding treatment options and care, is also included in the program through clinical practicum.

Services Provided by Your Denturist

Denturists are classified as health-care providers. They provide services that improve the health and well-being of their patients. There are many services that a Denturist provides. Among them are:

Examinations and Consultations

During your examination, your Denturist will check your soft tissues, hard tissues, and surrounding oral cavity. It is important for your Denturist to have your complete medical and dental history to properly assess your needs and provide you with suitable treatment options.

Partial Dentures

Partial dentures are necessary when one or more, but not all, of your natural teeth are missing in the upper or lower arch. Not only does a partial denture fill in the spaces created by missing teeth, it helps to prevent other teeth from shifting.

Complete Dentures

Complete dentures are necessary when all of your natural teeth are missing in the upper and/or lower arch. Complete dentures restore your smile and improve your bite, providing comfort and functionality

Immediate Dentures

Immediate dentures are placed right after tooth extraction, so you never go without teeth. Your Denturist will advise if this option suits your needs and guide you through the process.

Prosthesis Over Implant

An implant acts like a root of a tooth and provides a solid foundation for the placement of dentures over implants. Implants can be placed to support a single artificial tooth, partial dentures or complete dentures. As implants involve a surgical procedure, your dental team will develop and provide you with a treatment plan specific to your needs. Not everyone is a candidate for implants, please consult your Manitoba Denturist.

Repairing, Relining, and Rebasing Existing Dentures

Repairs are needed when dentures break, teeth are added, or wear and tear occur. Often, new teeth and clasps can be added to partial dentures when natural teeth are lost. Proper repairs involve adding new denture base material and may require an impression from your Denturist. Most repairs can be completed in a day, but they may indicate underlying issues like worn teeth or poor fit. Your Denturist can fix the denture and advise on preventing future damage.

Billing and Insurance

Most clinics accept private insurance, as well as public dental plans such as: Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP), Veterans Affairs, Family Services and Non-Insured Health Benefits (NHIB).

Please speak to your denturist for more details.

Bleaching Trays

Bleaching trays are removable, thin, personalized teeth whiting trays used by patients who would like to whiten their teeth in the comfort of their homes
